Important Things Need To Know About Washing Hair After Coloring

On summer days, dyeing our hair the color we like will put us in a good mood. Usually, you spend hours dying your hair to just the perfect color, so you want to keep your color fresh for as long as possible. So some questions may come to your mind: Should I wash my hair before coloring it? How long should I wait to wash my hair after coloring? To help keep your new hair color fresh, shiny and vibrant, we’re here to answer all your questions.

Why Shampooing Your Hair Daily Is Damaging and Destroying Your Hair

Should You Wash Your Hair Before Coloring?

In fact, a common misconception is that you shouldn’t wash your hair before coloring it, because dirty hair dyes the color faster. And the truth is, if your hair is dirty, you shouldn’t dye it at all. After all, unwashed hair not only has excess oil, but also dirt and sweat. Also, too much buildup will not allow the dye to penetrate the hair, resulting in uneven coloring of the hair.

Therefore, it is important to wash your hair with a mild shampoo 1-2 days before coloring.

How Long Should You Wait to Wash Your Hair After Coloring?

A day or two after coloring, we may have the same questions: “How long do I have to wait to wash my hair?”, “Can I get my hair wet after coloring?” and “Can I exercise after coloring?”.

For this issue, we recommend that you wait at least three days after coloring before washing your hair. This is because it takes up to three days for the cuticle to fully close, trapping the color molecules and thus making the hair color last longer.

How Often Should You Wash Colored Hair?

While color’s biggest enemy is water, that doesn’t mean you need to stop showering—just make some simple adjustments to your routine, like avoiding over-rinsing. To prevent the water from washing away your vibrant color, wash your hair sparingly. For example, it’s best to only wash your hair two to three times a week to retain those natural oils that help condition colored hair.
